“Besides daily lessons, we also offer 'Maths Modeling' School Activity (SA) specifically for participating pupils. During this SA time, I shared how I competed in and won the U.S. Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Contest and the China National Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Contest as a college student and introduced the framework and methods of writing papers for the contest by studying the past award-winning paper. Gradually, pupils mastered mathematical modeling. During the contest, I supported them in construing ideas and optimising the paper format. Our pupils were outstanding. They used their spare time and completed the task through excellent teamwork from topic selection, data collection, model building and poster production, and writing an English paper within a limited time. I am extremely proud of them.”
Huili pupils have been the defending champions since their debut in the AMC8 competition in 2020 (World’s top 1% AMC winners at Huili School, Huili pupils win excellent Maths awards in AMC8). The year 2023 is no exception. In March, four of our pupils from junior high won the Honour Roll (Top 5% in the world) and the school has also been awarded the School Merit Roll once again for its excellent results. Congratulations to all winners!
This achievement was emulated by pupils (Huili pupils win multiple top prizes in the UKMT Competition
ScienceWe have winners in several international competitions!
“If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?”
– Albert Einstein
Science and technology are the driving force behind every human progress. Cultivating a scientist starts from a young age as the young have an innate curiosity and desire to explore. When our pupils have an enhanced interest in science, creativity and the ability to innovate, we are on the journey of nurturing a future scientist. At Huili School Hangzhou, we are committed to cultivating future-oriented talents and have created multiple opportunities for pupils to participate in international science competitions. We are proud to see that in their first participation in some global science competitions, Huili pupils have achieved excellent results - 36 junior high pupils became proud award winners, among whom 27 were awarded global awards, including 3 Global Golds, 6 Global Silvers and 11 Global Bronzes, in the science related international competitions including Junior Physics Challenge, Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad, Junior Science Olympiad Exam, and You Be The Chemist Challenge. Congratulations!

“Most content in these competitions overlap with what pupils have learned in our lessons. We adopt differentiated teaching in our meticulously designed daily lessons so every pupil can immerse themselves in scientific explorations. While getting ready for the competitions, we prepared competition guidelines and practice books, set up Science Competition SA to do weekly competition training and analyse mistakes through practising past papers. We also deliver 1:1 guidance and provide suggestions for competition, inspiring pupils to explore a more profound and wider science world.”
Science Competition SA is incredibly rewarding. All JCCO winners have taken this course.
Junior Physics Challenge is designed to motivate the young to learn physics and improve their critical thinking and practical skills.
Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad is one of the most influential chemistry contests for junior high pupils. It aims to stimulate participants’ interest in chemistry and help them find joy in the subject.
Junior Science Olympiad Exam is designed to encourage participants to solve problems by using scientific methods.
You Be The Chemist Challenge is the most influential chemistry competition in the US that aims to recognise global chemist talents. It helps the participants to improve skills such as deep thinking, teamwork and creative thinking.
ChineseHuili pupils win the Global Chinese Argumentative Writing Competition
Learning Chinese is to learn how to see things from different perspectives and to understand characters and literary works. Having discussions and debates is more than finding a winner but inspiring pupils to think and reflect which confers meaning to learning. In the Chinese Argumentative Writing Competition this February, four junior high pupils from Huili were awarded one 1st prize, two 2nd prizes and one 3rd prize. Congratulations to our young writers!
The Global Chinese Argumentative Writing Competition is a brand-new event developed by the Asian Critical Thinking Education Association. It requires the candidates to be equipped with debating and writing skills, extended thinking skills and to be prompt at searching materials. Participants are requested to organise their ideas to argue and refute on the spot. It allows the characters to become responsive and transfers a piece of writing from one-way output into instant confrontation.

Rich Chinese teaching experience and selected by the Chinese government to teach Mandarin in Liverpool, UK, gaining excellent teaching results.
Joined Huili as a founding teacher in 2018 and widely popular among pupils.
“We encouraged pupils to participate in the competition and held an internal selection contest where the winners from each grade were chosen to take part in the official competition. In preparation, teachers helped the candidates to interpret the topic, master the key in writing and learn about the competition agenda through workshops. I am proud of what pupils have achieved. However, the training of one’s critical thinking exceeds the boundaries of competition. It is demonstrated in our daily teaching and learning. As it is said, ‘critical thinking is not confined to the form of speaking, while debating goes beyond the linguistic output’. At Huili, every pupil is endowed with the opportunity to partake in class and grade debate competitions. Teachers include critical thinking training in each lesson design allowing pupils to discuss and debate, learn from both affirmative and negative sides, and present their own ideas in written form.”
It is said that interest is one’s best teacher. With expertise and abundant experience in competitions entered themselves, Huili teachers work to inspire pupils and explore their potential, allowing their passions to shine through. For pupils, these valuable experiences in global contests will be cherished for years to come, and their achievements, a highlight for their future. While competing with pupils worldwide they have exchanged their learning experiences, built a positive attitude toward learning, and strengthened their perseverance and resilience. They gained friendships as well as knowledge and motivated their school peers with their enthusiasm for learning. A huge congratulations to all winners! We know the future holds greatness for you.
