New Campaign Unites over 20 California Artists for Charity Project

According to the California Cancer Registry, more than 1,700 children and young adults under the age of 20 are diagnosed with cancer in California each year.  Support and understanding is critical for any parent that has to deal with a child’s cancer as it affects the entire family.

This season, help for families with children suffering from cancer is coming in a unique way – through art.  Got milk? has united over 20 visual artists in a creative partnership that will benefit Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times through a program titled Milk Loves Art.

Throughout the years, arts advocates have made various claims that the arts positively impacts our communities.  According to the California Arts Council, a student involved in the arts is four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.

“This campaign has a dual focus: to bring local artists together for a charitable cause and also recognize the positive impact art has in our communities,” said Steve James, Executive Director of the California Milk Processor Board (CMPB). In the spirit of giving, professional and student artists will paint 31 life size cow sculptures, provided by got milk?, which will then be donated to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, who will then auction off the works of art and keep 100% of the proceeds.  Camp gives more than 1,500 children with cancer and their families the chance to take a break from their hardship and enjoy outdoor activities such as horseback riding, arts & crafts, archery and ropes courses; and most importantly, it gives them the opportunity to just be kids.

Jaleel White “Steve Urkel” celebrates basketball star Kobe Bryant’s legacy with the Los Angeles Lakers throughout the cow sculpture by painting his famous “vertical leap” and elements of his many championships.

Renowned artist/muralist, George Yepes, has joined the project as the lead artist for the Milk Loves Art program.  Yepes will be leading the creative phase of the campaign and working closely with the artists involved, and will also be painting one of the 31 cow sculptures.

“Whenever there’s a chance to get involved in bettering our community and enriching the lives of individuals through art, I’m more than happy to be part of it,” said George Yepes. “This partnership with got milk? allows me to get involved with what I’m passionate about: bringing art to the forefront and giving back to those in need.” Yepes’s work has been featured in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. and the Museum of Contemporary Art of San Diego, among others.

Alvin, Simon and Theodore hit the road for another crazy adventure in ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE ROAD CHIP, opening THIS FRIDAY DECEMBER 18th.

These classic characters are sure to delight new fans and old.

Through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in Miami and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother – in ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE ROAD CHIP. The new film is a mix of classic Chipmunk elements – including mischievous humor and heartwarming moments – that fans love about the franchise.

In 2007, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, a global phenomenon to generations of fans, became a live action/CGI motion picture event with a contemporary comic sensibility.  In the holiday season blockbuster, which grossed over $350 million worldwide, songwriter Dave Seville transformed singing chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore into pop sensations — while the out-of-control trio laid waste to Dave’s home, wreaked havoc on his career, and turned Dave’s once-orderly life upside-down.

Before you could say, “Alvinnnnn!!!” talks began about a new ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS movie.  Not content to rest on their laurels, the ‘Munks came up with yet another “first”: a “Squeakquel,” in which Alvin, Simon and Theodore finally meet their match – and maybe more – in the newly arrived female trio, The Chipettes.  Released in 2009, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL grossed over $440 million worldwide.

Two years later, the Munks unleashed ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED, in which the vacationing Chipmunks and Chipettes turn a luxury cruise liner into their personal playground, until they become ‘chipwrecked’ on a remote island.  As the ‘Munks and Chipettes scheme to find their way home, they accidentally discover their new turf is not as deserted as it seems.  CHIPWRECKED came ashore with over $340 million globally.

Now, it’s time for the boys to hit the road in their biggest journey yet, as they embark on a “road chip” across the U.S. During their storied misadventures, Alvin, Simon and Theodore have always had to solve problems they’ve created themselves! But during their road chip, and for the first time, they’re on a mission to keep their family together.

Starring: Jason Lee, Tony Hale, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Josh Green, Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Kaley Cuoco, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate

Has it ever happened to you… When you do not feel like cooking after work? Especially when you are out of work tired, lazy and overwhelmed.

Well it was one of those days for me last Thursday evening when gf was out of town for several days and I did not feel like going home to cook for myself. (I’m thankful to my gf because she usually does all our cooking! I am a blessed man.) Though that evening, I treated myself to some delicious seafood at Hermosa Beach Fish Shop. I LOVE seafood by the way. It was my first time there and I was very impressed with their quality of food and fast service.

I arrived and the ambiance was great. I really felt as if I was at a fish shop steps away from the beach because it really has that laid-back atmosphere, but you can’t tell that the beach is actually several blocks away.

Hermosa Beach Fish Shop is located at the corner of Pier Ave. and PCH, and you will not have any problem finding parking. It’s also the sister store to Pacific Beach Fish Shop and Encinitas Fish Shop and this trio of stores has been serving the San Diego area since 2010.

As soon as you walk-in you can smell the delicious food. Customers can eat inside, or take their food out onto the dog-friendly patio to enjoy the breeze.

I decided to sit inside and immediately chips were brought to my table. I served myself some salsa from the salsa bar, which is made fresh every day. The green salsa was my favorite – spicier.

While I looked at the menu and the grand variety of endless possibilities I opted for their famous TKO Taco that comes with Mahi Mahi grilled marinated with the Fish Shop seasoning to start. This was just the beginning and I knew I was in for a good treat.

Then I went ahead and ordered the shrimp ceviche. It was as good as the one my mom makes and my mother’s is the best. Lol

I had to pair all this succulent food with one of their craft beers on tap, which was the Expatriate IPA from Three Weavers Brewing Co. located in Inglewood, CA.

It poured a golden hue with a big fluffy white head. The smell was dominated by fruits and citrus, ranging from grapefruit to apricot to peaches to white wine grapes. Very sweet and incredible nose. The flavor is mostly bitter grapefruit with hints of herbal hops, but there’s an incredible malt balance reminiscent. Mouthfeel is medium.

Inside the restaurant/bar you could watch surfer videos, families gathered and an older and younger crowd like myself knew that this was the place to be on a Thursday night.

Locals and visitors enjoy Hermosa Beach Fish Shop’s “build-your-own fish” menu that consists of three steps:

  1. Choose your fish (up to 12 choices including red snapper, salmon and jumbo shrimp)
  2. Choose your marinade (blackened seasoning, lemon butter, chipotle glaze, and others)
  3. Choose your style. Have your fish as a sandwich, salad, taco, or plate.

Customers can eat inside, or take their food out onto the dog-friendly patio to enjoy the breeze. In addition to the build-your-own fish menu, Hermosa Beach Fish Shop also offers many other delectable seafood dishes, including Lobster Lumpia, Crab Cakes and Fried Calamari. For appetizers, they offer a succulent, tomato-based Fish Shop Soup, New England-style Clam Chowder and Fish Shop Chowder.

These can be washed down with either soft drinks, wine or any of the draft- or bottled beers they offer from their extensive beer menu. There is no corkage fee!

Hermosa Beach Fish Shop uses only the freshest fish caught right on the Pacific Coast. They make all of their seasoning and sauces by hand, and soups and salads are made from scratch each day.

The night progressed and I knew I had to make another decision; plate #2 so I choose the Fish Shop Shrimp, a popular and addicting one too according to many customers The shrimp is seasoned in Fish Shop seasoning-sautéed and served with a chipotle aioli dipping sauce.

Let me confirm that it was mouthwatering.

I also had a side order of the seaweed salad and macaroni salad. I had to taste each and they were delicious. I was very full by then that I had to take leftovers home.

The fast-casual environment is perfect for popping in for a quick lunch or dinner or unwinding with friends and family just like I did on Thursday after a long day at work. I will be returning with family because it is one of those places that is worth visiting again and again to indulge in other plates.

Thanks Brian for your hospitality!

Embrace your inner child because that’s exactly what Nike wants you to do with their latest winter campaign! Nike’s campaign aims to get people outdoors as they would back in their youth.

With the cold and harsh months of Winter Nike unveiled their latest campaign via their official website.

As the snow starts to fall many people are afraid to venture outside, instead more invested in embracing the warmth. And this is what I LOVE the most about this campaign — that it is challenging you to leave all excuses aside and work out in the cold weather because its easier to give up, but the mind is powerful to get the work done!

Using several high class athlete from their roster, including Patriots Rob Gronkowsi, Odell Beckham Jr, Carli Lloyd and Eugenie Bouchard, the advert features a well produced video which ends with an improtu game of football.

The short movie marks the start of Nike official Winter Training campaign. The Oregon based sports giants, have cleverly chosen the hashtag #GetOutHere to support the campaign. Encouraging their consumers to get outside and enjoy the perks of training in the winter, the tagline is highly memorable and persuasive.

The video was unveiled to their official Facebook page, with over 1.3m views and 44.8k likes and Twitter, with over 22.7k retweets and 28.7k favourites within 6 hours of its premiere. Many of the athletes starring in the video, took to social media to support the promotion of the short movie and campaign, utilizing the branded hashtag, whilst giving a personal touch to the movie to further entice consumers.

Social buzz around the campaign has meant that Nike’s Winter Training range is likely to see a surge in sales and traffic to their website, as well as further brand awareness of their training range.

In a PR stunt, set to raise further interest in the campaign,  Nike has also specially commissioned an ice sculpture of Rob Gronkowski, outside the Gillette Stadium alongside another sculpture with the new campaign’s hashtag.

As as part of the #GetOutHere campaign, Nike featured 48 weather-defying athletes to compete in the Get Out Here Challenge, the ultimate cold-weather training experience, that was held in Chicago the week of December 8, 2015.

Hotel Good Luck is a story that aims to reconcile ourselves with life, through reconciling us with death.  It is a play about love in its different ways. It’s a play about the abandon, the need of dropping, and above all the need of accepting that we are only here for a short while, in passing, and that’s why we need to be the very best we can be.

Hotel Good Luck builds up a very particular universe full of absurd situations and ironies, as well as a lot of humor, or rather said it builds up several parallel universes, occurring over and over.

Directed by Alejandro Ricano, and starring Luis Gerardo Mendez and Pablo Chemor, Good Luck Hotel comes to Hollywood for 3 performances only, in Spanish, so don’t miss this opportunity to see Mexico’s brightest talent live on stage at The Montalban in Hollywood, CA (1615 N. Vine St.)

Lexus is on a roll. LF-LC, LF-CC, LFA, IS and RC are all pretty stunning.

Next up on the roster of updates, and adopting the L-Finesse design language is the LS flagship sedan, is the LF-FC (“Lexus Future Fuel Cell”) – a concept car (for now) that challenges the Merc S-Class and BMW 7-Series.

If you’re bored of the German default you should really try out something from Japan. And seeing the LF-FC unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, it’s easy to see the appeal.

WHAT IT IS: A two-plus-two sports coupe concept from Toyota’s California design studio that could be Lexus’s answer to the Aston Martin DB9 if, of course, it reaches production. More expensive and more driver-oriented than the defunct SC430 convertible, this “poor man’s LFA” (it’ll cost about half as much) will squeeze at least 500 horsepower from its hybrid powertrain.

WHY IT MATTERS: With the LFA out of the picture, the LF-LC would become the brand’s standard-bearer—and a more visible one at that.

PLATFORM: Unknown. A new front-engine, rear-drive architecture or a heavily revised Lexus GS platform are logical possibilities.

POWERTRAIN: A gasoline-electric hybrid with a V-8 engine and at least 500 horsepower.

COMPETITION: Aston Martin DB9, Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari California, Mercedes-Benz S-class coupe, Porsche 911 Turbo, Rolls-Royce Wraith.

WHAT MIGHT GO WRONG: Unveiled as a concept at last year’s Detroit show, the LF-LC moved toward production after enthusiastic receptions at dealer meetings. That green light can swiftly turn red, though, for a host of political and economic reasons.

ESTIMATED ARRIVAL AND PRICE: At the earliest, in 2016 as a 2017 model with a price just below $200,000.
