It’s always great to step out of the box and go to cities that are not always listed as a top destination in your popular searches. Plus that is what a natural-born seekender would do.

Visiting Memphis would be perfect for every seekender. What do I mean? It would be perfect for those who like to take advantage of weekends to spontaneously live new experiences with travel being at the top of the list.

As a Latino millennial this place really caught my attention because there was so much to learn (museums & history) while there was also ample time to go and play. It’s a city that offered the best of both worlds.

A couple of months ago I visited this historic and musically-inclined southern city and I enjoyed it a lot. The food there was delicious and comforting as well.

From its strong historical background, great food, music to natural green spaces Memphis has it all for every person wanting to visit.

During my visit I made sure to scratch off jogging along the Mississippi River, which is only blocks away from the downtown area. I was able to log-in a couple of great jogs there (both at night and day). The night view is spectacular with all of the lights gleaming from the Hernando de Soto Bridge.

As you all may know Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis at the Lorraine Hotel and I made sure to visit this important place during my visit. I went to the National Civil Rights Museum and Lorraine Motel where the tour guides will take you the exact balcony room where MLK was assassinated.

While I was there I learned a lot about the civil rights movement and pieces of information that are often left out in school textbooks.

Memphis is famous for its barbecue and soul food so I made sure to eat at one of the well-known restaurants called Central BBQ. I highly recommend it. On another occasion I had dinner at Lafayette’s Restaurant, which is also a BBQ place and it was to die for.

For all my seekenders planning a trip here the restaurants mentioned should be on your list of places to eat. You will not regret it. Lafayette’s will have live music in the evenings (or at least it did when I visited on a Wednesday).

In terms of music Elvis Presley, B.B. King and Johnny Cash recorded albums at the legendary Sun Studio and Presley’s Graceland mansion which is a popular attraction for people of all ages.

I visited Graceland and it’s a very beautiful house, which is where he lived. Everything has been kept intact to preserve its natural state. My favorite was going into Elvis’s “garage”, which includes his collection of cars. I was told he had over 30 cars. Wow!

All of my Latino millennials into cars would love visiting Graceland just to look at his collection of cars.

I love nature and another place I really enjoyed going out for a hike on was Shelby Farms, which is a big city park with trails and a small lake. It was very relaxing to do that for an entire day.

I know that many people like to unleash their inner seekender by hiking and connecting with nature so this would be a perfect place to do that.

For a good nightlife I would highly recommend going to Beale Street, which is like the mini Vegas strip (at least that is how I would describe it). You can go into bars/clubs and listen to live jazz, blues and rock ‘n’ roll.

If time permits on your busy schedule I also recommend you get a full panoramic view of the city by making your way up to the Memphis Pyramid and catch some pretty stunning views.

And in terms of a great place to stay I highly recommend you do so at a Hampton by Hilton. Why? Let me tell you…

You can rest assured that you will receive free breakfast and Wi-Fi – you will get Hampton’s On the House hot breakfast or you can grab On the Run breakfast-to-go bags. This is a great value, especially for families. Hampton by Hilton also has free Wi-Fi and the beds are really comfy. Plus, Hampton has a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

In addition the On-Site Suite Shop offers guests with snacks, waters and other travel items that might be needed while on vacation, digital check-in and room selection is available and park, stay & go is designed to make it easier to get where you need to go during your trip.
